Don't Put THAT on the Moving Truck

Things your movers will not move
If you are planning to move, you quite possibly have a pretty good idea of everything you'll be taking to your new home. After all, you know all the things you own and what you won’t be able to live without. However you will find some materials that your movers won't move. Ask your moving company in Austin for their complete list of non-transportable things and read on for some examples.
1. Flammable or hazardous materials
Combustible and hazardous items pose a significant fire risk, and professional moving companies need to sidestep any potential for fire. Plus, there are rigid regulations concerning the transport of these items, and mostly all moving companies simply don't wish to deal with the hassle.
In the event you have any of the listed materials which you need to move, you'll have to plan to move them yourself. Sorry!
- Aerosol sprays
- Bleach
- Fireworks
- Gas or Kerosene
- Matches
- Nail polish remover
- Paint
- Paint thinner
- Pesticides
- Propane tanks
- Fertilizer
2. Perishable food items
Professional moving companies in Austin typically will not transport food items that may spoil, such as dairy products, vegetables and fruits, meat, etc. The reasoning is because it is a food safety issue. These things need to be kept at a particular temperature to keep them from spoiling and potentially making people ill. In the event food is not kept at the correct temperature over transit, it will spoil and be dangerous to eat.
Also, food items may invite pests. When food is left open, it may attract bugs or other critters that could get into the moving truck and infest the rest of the belongings. It is a lot easier (and of course less messy) to just leave the perishable food items behind and purchase new once you arrive to your new home in the event you aren’t able to transport it yourself.
3. Potted plants
When it comes to moving plants, laws change from state to state concerning what types of plants can cross state lines. After you confirm that your plants will be legal to transport, you will need to arrange for moving them in your vehicle. And don’t forget, plants are usually difficult to move since they must have light and water over the journey, therefore you might wish to ponder giving them away prior to your move.
4. Alcohol and wine
Your moving company likely won’t assist you to move that crate of wine or flask of whiskey you have been preserving for a special occasion. This can be attributed to some serious risks surrounding transporting alcohol. Liquor laws vary from state to state, and various states have limits on the amount of alcohol that can be transported into the state. Also, alcohol is flammable, so if not transported properly, it could be unsafe for all involved. In the event you have a notably expensive wine collection, look into a wine relocation company to transport your collection safely (and legally) for you.
Bottom line
The majority of professional movers in Austin have very stringent policies on what items they can and can't move. There are a few belongings that they simply will not move. These items may be dangerous, perishable, or merely illegal to transport. Prior to planning your move, you must cautiously think through what your movers can move and what they won't.
