Learning to Enjoy the Cold Weather When You Dont Really Like It
By Julie DeLong, A-1 Freeman Moving Group
Yikes! Where to start? Well, what you need to do is discover ways to take pleasure in the cold weather even though you don't genuinely love it. If you master to embrace the cold weather instead of thinking of it as your adversary, you merely could find that there are things about it that you like! And even if it turns out you never grow to like the wintry weather, you can use various coping mechanisms that will make it much more endurable.
MAKE THE HOME COZY
A cozy home goes a long way in the direction of making your space comfortable and snug and improves your existing perception of well-being. Stay away from the minimalist look - it will make your home feel and look cold. Cold weather cozy summons images of plump sofas in sumptuous material, fluffy throw pillows, area rugs or carpet.
Position a pair of comfortable lined house shoes next to the front door. Walking on uncovered wooden floors or tile can be quite miserable in the winter months, particularly if you are not accustomed to it. Carpeting your residence or buying a few area rugs or throw rugs will go a long way toward keeping your toes snug and may help your house feel cozier.
Bake something. Having the oven on will warm your abode…and, the magnificent aroma of fresh bread or cookies in the oven is just plain soothing. You will feel better.
Find insulating windows treatments, such as honeycomb window blinds or heavy draperies, to block the cold temperatures.
For those who have a fireplace, make use of it! There's nothing more inviting than sitting on the couch, sipping some hot chocolate, with a crackling fire going. Electric fireplaces work, as well.
WEAR THE APPROPRIATE APPAREL WHEN YOU VENTURE OUTSIDE
Venturing outside when you're not dressed for it is unpleasant, so be equipped for the frigid weather if it is time to get out. Put money into a few sweatshirts, sweaters, down jacket, waterproof lined boots, wool socks, hats, scarves, and gloves or mittens. Wearing snug layered clothing definitely makes the winter weather much more bearable.
TRY SOMETHING NEW - ENGAGE IN COLD-WEATHER OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES
No, you cannot go swimming outside…but the wintry weather presents really fun out of doors possibilities that you just do not have in warm weather - including, snow. Discover ways to embrace the snow and enjoy it. Instead of thinking about snow just as a burden (shoveling, scraping your car windows, driving on slippery streets), think about all the fun times it could present. Watch kids playing in the snow. They LOVE it…building snowmen, a fort, having a snowball fight, creating snow angels, going sledding, or even just sliding down a hillside on a piece of cardboard. Engage your inner youngster and play.
Check out ice skating. It is a great activity and can really get the cardiovascular system pumping, which in turn increases your body temperature. When you get efficient at it, the fluid and repeating movement are extremely comforting. It is a great way to meet people, as well. For anyone who is more daring, go for skiing or snowboarding. Many mountain regions have snow schools which give training in the fundamentals. As you drift down the mountain, you simply can't help but be affected by the beauty of nature all over the place. You will feel invigorated.
